The 2006 ‘Jane Eyre’ was filmed at the medieval manor house Haddon Hall and the Derbyshire countryside over 13 weeks in 2005.Jane Eyre spin-offs include a 1952 Indian version, ‘Sangdil’, a 1956 Hong Kong version called ‘The Orphan Girl’, a 1963 Mexican version called ‘El Secreto’ and ‘I walked with a Zombie’ in 1943 (go figure…).Surely one could do little justice to Brontë’s sprawling masterpiece in two hours (2011 Jane Eyre movie), much less in 97 minutes (1943 Jane Eyre movie) or even 62 minutes (1934 Jane Eyre movie). The first UK television version appeared in 1956 with Stanley Baker as Rochester.
